ORLANDO, Fla. – Western Carolina women’s tennis got back in the win column blanking Savannah State 6-0 Sunday in Orlando, Fla.

 

TURNING POINT:

Western Carolina swept the doubles point and went on to sweep past Savanah State in singles for the win. The No. 4 singles match was halted.

 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Western Carolina breezed through the doubles getting wins at all three doubles positions.
  • The Catamounts went on to take all five singles matches that were played. The No. 4 singles match with Savanah Taranto was tied at one set apiece before it was halted.

NOTES:

  • Western Carolina has won four of its last five matches.
  • Jordan Strickland earned her 32nd career victory on Sunday as she remains in second place. She is chasing the program record for most singles wins in school history held by former Catamount Stacia Kissell who ended her career with 37.
  • Rookie Jacy Smith has won four straight matches at No. 2 singles and seven of her last eight. She currently leads the team with an 8-3 singles record.

 

UPCOMING:

Western Carolina will continue to enjoy warm and sunny Florida during their spring trip. They will face Fairleigh Dickinson at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
