Western Carolina volleyball head coach Karen Glover today announced the hiring of Chelsi Carter as an assistant coach. Carter assumes the position vacated by Travis Nead who resigned to become the head coach at Coker College.
“I am extremely excited to add Chelsi as our assistant coach,” Glover stated. “Her experience on the defensive side of the game combined with her passion and work ethic make her a great fit for our program. I am excited about the future of Catamount volleyball!”
Carter joins the Catamount family after spending the 2018 season as an assistant coach and interim head coach at Nicholls State in Thibodaux, La. As an assistant, Carter was responsible for scouting opponents, developing a defensive game plan, organizing camps, handling team travel and meals and film review. Carter served as interim head coach for the final five matches of the season.
Prior to her time at Nicolls State, Carter was an assistant coach at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, S.D. where she was in charge of travel, meals, budgeting, scheduling, scouting and breaking down film. She began her coaching career as a beach volleyball assistant and volunteer indoor volleyball assistant at UAB.
During her collegiate career at Samford, Carter played at Southern Conference member Samford where she was a four-year
Western Carolina began spring practice earlier in the month and begins the 2019 season in late August.
