CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women’s basketball opens the 2018-19 season Tuesday at Coastal Carolina. Game time is set for 5 p.m. at the HTC Center.

Five Things to Know:

1. Western Carolina women’s basketball is 27-26 in season-opening games.

2. Western Carolina is a mixture of old and new as the team returns six players and welcomes six newcomers. Of the six newcomers, five are freshmen and there is one junior college transfer.

3. The opening game on November 6 is the earliest opening game in the history of Western Carolina women’s basketball. The date beats the previous earliest start date by two days when the Catamounts opened the season at Marcher on Nov. 8, 2013.

4. Western Carolina and Coastal Carolina meet for the 12th time on November 6. The Catamounts hold a 6-5 record over Coastal Carolina all-time. It will be the sixth time the two teams meeting in Conway, S.C. with WCU holding a close 3-2 record. Coastal Carolina has won the last three meetings. The two teams last met in 2012 in Conway with Coastal coming away with a 56-42 victory. Western Carolina’s last victory over Coastal Carolina came 18 years ago, back in 2000, when WCU defeated them 69-51 in Conway.

5. Western Carolina was picked eighth in both the SoCon Coaches and Media Preseason poll.
