Cullowhee, N.C. – The Western Carolina cross country teams will compete in their final meet before the Southern Conference championships on Friday as the Catamounts travel to directional rival East Carolina for the Pirate Invitational. The event will be held at Overton’s Lake Christi.

The women’s 6K race is scheduled to begin at 4:45 p.m. followed by the men’s 8K race at 5:20 p.m.

In the Queen City Invitational on Sept. 28, both the men’s and women’s team scored top-10 finishes. Senior Kaitlyn Lingard led the women’s team to a seventh-place finish as she scored her second straight top-10 individual result with a season-best time of 17:51. Lingard now holds the fifth-fastest 5K time in program history. On the men’s side, senior Jordan Bostian led the Catamounts for the second straight meet with a 15th place finish.

In addition to Western Carolina and host East Carolina, Barton, Elizabeth City State, Elon, Duke (men only), Hampton, NC State, Norfolk State, St. Augustine’s, UNC Asheville and Virginia State are scheduled to compete in the meet.

Western Carolina returns to action on Oct. 28 as the Catamounts host the Southern Conference championships. The men’s race is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with the women’s race at 10:45 a.m.
