Cullowhee, N.C. - The Third Annual Great Catamount Rubber Duck Race, presented by Tuckaseegee Fly Shop, will float down Cullowhee Creek Saturday, October 13 prior to the Western Carolina football game against Chattanooga. The duck race will get quacking at 2:00 pm.

Three hundred ducks will be floating down Cullowhee Creek in the now annual event. Catamount fans interested in participating can pick up their FREE Duck at Tuckaseegee Fly Shop in downtown Sylva at 530 West Main Street or in Bryson City at 3 Depot St. No purchase is necessary and will be on a first come, first serve basis. Just remember, please bring ducks(s) back with you on race day.

After picking up your duck, at Tuckaseegee Fly Shop, take your duck to the footbridge at the Creek Lot on Cullowhee Creek - the bridge is located directly across from the Ramsey Center truck tunnel on the Western Carolina University campus.

Participants must drop off and check in their rubber duck between 1:00 pm to 1:55 pm on Saturday, October 13 prior to the rubber ducks being released at 2:00 pm. General parking is free at the baseball parking lots, but a reminder that space is limited and will fill up fast on game day. Most other lots near the stadium require a Catamount Club parking pass.

Viewing of the rubber duck race must be limited to the west side of Cullowhee Creek and please ensure your children’s safety at all time.

For the top finishing ducks this year, Tuckaseegee Fly Shop will be offering the following top three prizes: first place – Full Day Guided Float Trip, second place – camping equipment package, third place - $50 worth of Patagonia gear from Tuckaseegee Fly Shop 

No purchase is necessary. and participants are limited to one rubber duck per entry and participants must be at least two years old to enter. Once the rubber ducks are turned in for the race they will be returned back to Western Carolina Athletics.

After the last rubber duck floats its way across the finish line make sure to cheer on Catamount football against Chattanooga at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field. Remember, its Celebrate 828 Day as well as Hall of Fame weekend and Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) Day with kickoff set for 3:30 pm.
