Grand Forks, N.D.Merry Gebel posted her second consecutive double-double as Western Carolina swept Louisiana Tech 3-0 at the UND Classic on Saturday afternoon inside the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The Catamounts won by scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-23. WCU improves to 5-1 while Louisiana Tech drops to 1-6.

Gebel led the Catamounts with 10 kills and 10 digs. MaKenzie White posted 10 kills and led Western Carolina with a .500 hitting percentage. Abigail Veit tied a season-high with 13 digs while Meagan Sanchez tallied 10. Aleah Keaton recorded a team-best four block assists. Hannah Price dished out 21 assists and was closely followed by Sydney Carlson with 17.

White and Sanchez were named to the UND Classic All-Tournament team along with North Dakota’s Roosa Rautio, Ashley Brueggeman and Kayla Williams, Eastern Washington's Samantha Boever and Louisiana Tech's Kaitlyn Adams. 

Adams led the Louisiana Tech attack with 13 kills, followed by Madeline Davis with 12 kills and Lara Hendricks with 10.  Alyssa Zucco had a team-best 16 digs. Abigail Hildenbrand led the Bulldogs with 34 assists.

Louisiana Tech opened the first set on a 6-2 run before the Catamounts pulled ahead 13-12 on a Jada Gardner kill. After the Bulldogs pulled within two, 20-18, Western Carolina closed out the set on a 5-1 run and wrapped up the first set thanks to a Louisiana Tech error.

The Bulldogs took a 13-7 lead in the second set on a Carter Mirich service ace. Western Carolina chipped away at the deficit and tied the stanza at 18 following a White kill. After a Mirich ace that evened the set at 20, Western Carolina rolled off three straight points for a 23-20 edge. The Bulldogs pulled to within one, 24-23, before a Price kill ended the set. 

A tightly contested third set featured 14 ties and four lead changes. With the score tied at 22, a Keaton kill followed by a Louisiana Tech error brought the Catamounts to match point. Louisiana Tech pulled within one, 24-23, before Keaton ended the match with a kill.  

Western Carolina will conclude its North Dakota road trip on Sunday in Fargo, N.D. against North Dakota State at 4 p.m. ET.
