Spartanburg, S.C. – Seniors Kaitlyn Lingard and Jordan Bostian led the Western Carolina cross country teams at the season-opening Eye Opener Invitational held at the Milliken Research Park on Friday evening. The women’s team scored a runner-up finish while the men’s team finished in third place.
Lingard led the women’s team with a fourth-place finish as she completed the 5K course in 18:30.60. Junior Lindsay Trotter finished in 10th place finish in 19:22.70 followed by Christina Nikolaou in 11th with a time of 19:39.10. Freshman Siena Gates completed her first collegiate race in 19:57.20, closely followed by classmate Jamie Blaylock in 20:00.00.
Bostian opened his season with a top-10 finish as he completed the 8K race in 27:06.80. Isaiah Hanna finished in 23rd in 28:00.50. A trio of Catamounts finished together in 26th through 28th place. Kevin Pack finished in 26th with a time of 28:19.30, followed by Tyler White at 28:36.0 and Ian Reesh 28:37.60 to round out the Catamount scorers.
Furman won the women’s race with a score of 17 points followed by the Catamounts with 48 points and Wofford with 74 points. The Paladins won the men’s race with a score of 15 points, followed by host USC Upstate with 59 points and the Catamounts with 78 points.
Western Carolina is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Furman Cross Country Invitational.
