Cullowhee, N.C. – Five Western Carolina women’s golfers were named All-American Scholars as the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) announced its honorary teams this week. Catamount seniors Amanda Floberg and Alyssa Morahan, as well as freshmen Hazel Martin, Maya White, and Cameron Wood were among those recognized.

It is the 18th-straight year that Western Carolina has placed golfers among the annual honorees – and the 16th-consecutive year that WCU has had multiple selections. This year’s five selections match the most by the Catamount program, equaling the five recipients following play in both 2011-12 and 2013-14.

The criteria for selection to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics with a minimum cumulative GPA requirement of a 3.50.

Floberg garnered selections in back-to-back years for the Catamounts – the 15th WCU women’s golfer since 2000 to earn multiple selections. A transfer prior to her junior season, the Stockholm, Sweden product led the Catamounts in scoring at two events this season including the Southern Conference championship. In the classroom, Floberg – who was a four-time Chancellor’s List recipient – boasted a cumulative grade point average of 3.984, graduating summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in finance.

Morahan, who is pursuing a master’s in psychology, has a GPA of 4.00. The North Reading, Mass., native led the Catamounts in scoring a team-best four times during the 2017-18 season, closing the year ranked second on the team in stroke average.

Martin paced the squad in scoring three times during her freshman season, finishing the year with a team-leading seasonal stroke average of 79.11. The Brisbane, Australia native is majoring in political science with a cumulative GPA of 3.641, collecting Chancellor’s List honors in the fall semester. Her classmates, White and Wood, have GPAs of 3.867 and 3.580 respectively while majoring in Art and Communication. White earned Dean’s List honors in the fall semester and Chancellor’s List in the spring while Wood was on the Dean’s List in both semesters of her freshman year.

Overall, 1,011 women's collegiate golfers were recognized with the prestigious All-American Scholar honor including a combined 26 from the Southern Conference. WCU’s five honorees led the way with both ETSU and Furman having four golfers recognized. Mercer, Samford, and UNCG put three apiece on the honorary squad, while Chattanooga and Wofford both had two golfers honored.

The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents nearly 600 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
