With the Loss ...
- Western Carolina saw both its four-game seasonal winning streak and three-game SoCon win streak snapped … It was the seventh-straight loss for WCU at the hands of Chattanooga, and a fifth-consecutive road loss to the Mocs;

- The Catamounts fell to 16-26 all-time against UTC with its seventh-straight loss in the series … WCU dropped to 6-15 all-time at Chattanooga with its fifth-consecutive loss;

- WCU has now dropped 24-straight games against nationally-ranked FCS teams dating back to 2006 and had its drought against nationally-ranked FCS teams on the road stretched to 42-consecutive losses back to 1984;

- WCU dropped to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in SoCon play.

- Western Carolina fell to 0-3 all-time against teams ranked fourth at the FCS level … For the third-time against a No. 4 team, WCU only managed to score 13 points in the 41-13 loss … WCU dropped its first two games against No. 4 squads by matching 31-13 margins … WCU is 11-75-3 all-time against nationally-ranked FCS opponents all-time;

- Western Carolina senior QB Troy Mitchell moved atop the school ledgers for career touchdown passes with his 43-yard hook-up with junior WR Steffon Hill in the third quarter … Mitchell now has 44 career passing TDs, breaking the tie for the top-spot with previous record holder, Mike Pusey (43, 1977-79) … Mitchell already owned WCU’s individual career records for total offense, passing yards and pass completions;

- Junior WR Steffon Hill recorded his first career touchdown reception on the aforementioned 43-yard pass from Mitchell … Hill caught five passes for a team-high 72 receiving yards against UTC;

- Chattanooga held the Southern Conference’s leader in all-purpose yards – WCU’s Detrez Newsome – to a season-low 49 all-purpose yards … Newsome, who ranked third in the SoCon in rushing average, was held to just 39 yards on the ground and 10 yards through the air coming on a career-high seven receptions;

- Newsome recorded his eighth rushing touchdown of the season on Saturday – his eighth-consecutive game with scoring a touchdown … Newsome has posted at least one TD in each game this season … He has 17 career rushing TDs, matching QB Troy Mitchell in WCU’s career record books;

- With three catches on Saturday, redshirt senior WR Karnorris Benson now has 142 for his career moving into a tie for eighth in the WCU record books … Benson has matched former WCU receivers Eddie Cohen (2004-07) and Jeff Dean (1978-81);

- Senior LB Sertonuse Harris recorded seven tackles at Chattanooga giving him 307 for his WCU career moving him into a tie for 11th in the school’s record books … Harris matched former WCU defensive lineman Clyde Simmons (307, 1982-85);

- Freshman DB Marvin Tillman recorded a career-high 12 tackles including eight solo stops in the road loss … Redshirt sophomore Daniel Riddle recorded his seventh-straight double-digit tackle effort – and the eighth of his career – with 10 tackles against the Mocs;

Miscellaneous Notes:
- Western Carolina's team captains for Saturday afternoon's game were junior DB #3 Fred Payne; senior DB #4 Sertonuse Harris; senior QB #10 Troy Mitchell; redshirt sophomore LB #58 Daniel Riddle; and redshirt senior OL #61 Jake Thornton ... UTC won the coin toss and elected to defer to the second half … WCU received the opening kickoff;

- Senior DT #79 Helva Matungulu carried out the American flag while redshirt senior WR #14 Karnorris Benson carried out the “All You Got” flag during pregame on Saturday.
