With the Win ...
- Western Carolina halted an 11-game losing skid to Samford dating back to 1969, ending a 46-year drought ... It was WCU's first-ever win over Samford in Cullowhee and the first since the Bulldogs joined the Southern Conference;

- The Catamounts registered their fourth-straight victory, the program's longest win streak since 2001;

- WCU won for the fifth-straight time at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters dating back to last season;

- The Catamounts claimed their third-straight Homecoming win, their largest win streak on Homecoming since winning five-straight from 1998-2002;

Post-Game Notes:
- Western Carolina's 56 points are the most ever scored by a Catamount football team against a Southern Conference opponent all-time ... the previous high was 53 points scored against Chattanooga on Oct. 22, 1994 (W, 54-15);

- WCU's 56 points are the most by the Catamounts in a game since 2004 when WCU defeated West Virginia State 77-7 ... WCU did score 52 points in a 2011 home win over Mars Hill, the most recent time the Catamounts scored 50 points in a game;

- During Saturday's victory, WCU senior QB Troy Mitchell became Western Carolina's all-time leader for passing in program history, breaking the previous 36-year benchmark held by Mike Pusey (6,160 yds from 1977-79) ... Following Saturday's game, Mitchell now has with 6,406 career passing yards;

- Mitchell's two passing TDs also moved him into a tie with Mike Pusey (1977-79) for WCU's all-time career touchdown pass record, both with 43 career TD passes ... Mitchell already owns WCU's career records for total offense, pass completions, and touchdown responsibility;

- Redshirt freshman RB Corey Holloway scored a career-high two rushing touchdowns in Saturday's victory ... It was his second-straight game with a rushing TD ... Holloway matched Newsome for a season-high two rushing TDs (Newsome has done it twice) while also securing the third and fourth rushing scores of his career;

- Redshirt senior WR Karnorris Benson hauled in two touchdown passes in the win over Samford with scores of 39 and 30 yards ... It is his fourth career game with multiple touchdown receptions ... Benson now has 22 career touchdown receptions, moving into a tie for second in WCU's all-time record books ... Benson matched former Catamount great Eric Rasheed (22, 1981-84) and is just four receiving TDs shy of all-time leader, Gerald Harp (26, 1977-80);

- Benson also moved into WCU's career receptions top 10 listing ... His three grabs on Saturday give him 139 career receptions, matching former Catamount standout Craig Aiken (139, 1991-94) for 10th ... Benson now has 2,152 career receiving yards, just 94 shy of WCU's all-time career top 10 (Wayne Tolleson, 1974-77 -- 10th -- 2,246 yds);

- Redshirt freshman WR Jordan Mathis had a couple of career firsts in the game against Samford ... the Marietta, Ga., native scored his first career touchdown on a nine-yard reception ... He later tallied his first career touchdown pass, tossing a 39 strike to Benson ... He is the second non-quarterback to toss a TD pass for WCU this year -- Detrez Newsome tossed a 75-yard score to Spearman Robinson on the first play from scrimmage in the season-opening win over Mars Hill;

- Junior WR Steffon Hill and junior TE Tyler Sexton both recorded career-highs in receiving on Saturday with Hill catching six passes for 119 and Sexton tallying six receptions for 102 yards ... It is the first time that WCU has had two receivers go over the century mark in the same game since the 2014 season finale against VMI when Terryon Robinson (12 for 127 yds) and Karnorris Benson (8 for 127 yds) accomplished the feat;

- WR Spearman Robinson gave WCU its first kickoff return for a touchdown this season, taking the on-side attempt 49 yards for a score ... It is the first kick return for a TD since Detrez Newsome took the opening kickoff 100 yards against Wofford (Oct. 11, 2014);

- Redshirt freshman punter Ian Berryman booted a career-long 65-yard punt against Samford ... Berryman averaged 52.4 yards per kick including three of 50+ yards while also downing two inside the Bulldog 20-yard line;

- Defensively, junior DB Trey Morgan was credited with a career-high 15 tackles including 10 solo stops ... Linebackers Tyson Dickson (13) and Daniel Riddle (11) continued their string of double-digit tackle outings, stretching the streak to six-consecutive games ... Dickson now has eight career double-digit tackle games while Riddle has seven ... Riddle also made his first career interception in the victory;

- Senior LB Sertonuse Harris finished with 11 tackles on Saturday night to give him an even 300 for his WCU career ... Harris is just six shy of 12th place on WCU's career ledger, held by Hall of Famer, Steve Yates (306, 1971-74) and is just seven shy of 11th place, Clyde Simmons (307, 1982-85).

- Western Carolina's team captains for Saturday afternoon's game were junior DB #3 Fred Payne; senior DB #4 Sertonuse Harris; senior QB #10 Troy Mitchell; redshirt sophomore LB #58 Daniel Riddle; and redshirt senior OL #61 Jake Thornton ... Western Carolina won the coin toss and chose to get the football first ... Western Carolina received the opening kickoff;

- Senior OL #76 Josh Wineberg carried out the American flag while junior DB #26 Trey Morgan carried out the "All You've Got" flag during pregame on Saturday.
