Baseball: Snow Storm Forces Schedule Changes; Sunday Postponed
Sunday's game will be added to Monday doubleheader starting at 2 pm PT

Sunday's snow storm has forced further changes to the four-game baseball series between Western Carolina and Washington State. Officials at WSU have postponed Sunday's game three and combined it with Monday's series finale for a doubleheader with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 pm PT / 5:00 pm ET.

Game four of the series will follow at its originally scheduled time of 6:00 pm PT / 9:00 pm ET barring any additional schedule changes.

Catamount Tennis falls to Bulldogs 5-2 on Sunday afternoon
Stacia Kissell improved 5-1 with her straight-set singles win Sunday

Western Carolina's Stacia Kissell and Shannon Bettiol earned wins at No. 1 singles and No. 2 singles respectively, but the Catamounts fell 5-2 to mountain rival UNC Asheville at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

"We had to really fight and claw our way back into the match, and I thought we did a really good job of that," head coach Michaela Kissell-Eddins said. "I am really proud of the way we competed and the steps we are making are in the right direction."

Women's Basketball Just Falls Short to Davidson 83-73
Erika Joseph scores career-high 17

Western Carolina women's basketball (12-15, 6-10 Southern Conference) took Davidson (13-13, 10-5 SoCon) to the wall but didn't have an answer for the Wildcats' Laura Murray who poured in 23 points in the Davidson Senior Day 83-73 victory at Belk Arena.

Both teams played a tough first half and put together a high-powered offensive showdown in both halves. Western Carolina trailed by just two points, 33-31, at the half thanks in part to holding the Wildcats to just one field goal in the final two minutes of the half.

Western Carolina tied the game five times to open the second half before taking its first lead of the second off a three-pointer by Lindsay Simpson, 48-47.The Catamounts would lead again off a lay-up by Rena Wakama, 53-52, before Dakato Dukes would tie it for the sixth time of the half, 53.The bucket by Dukes would spur a 30-20 run in the final 10 minutes of the game to secure the win for the Wildcats.

2014 Catamount Golf Tour Schedule Released!

Western Carolina Athletics and the Catamount Club have again partnered with Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort for the seventh installment of the Catamount Golf Tour. The six-event tour spans six total months and includes many highly anticipated golf tournaments.

The schedule runs from early April through late September with five stops across North Carolina and one in the Upstate of South Carolina. The 2014 Catamount Golf Tour tees off on Saturday, April 5 with the Catamount Shootout hosted at the Marion Lake Club in Nebo, N.C., and concludes with the Upstate Classic in Greenville, S.C., at The Preserve at Verdae on Friday, Sept. 26.

Stops along the way include The Metrolina Open at the Warrior Golf Club in China Grove, N.C., on Friday, May 16; the Catamount Football Classic at the Waynesville Inn on Wednesday, June 4; the WCU/Hayesville Golf Outing at The Ridges Golf Club in Hayesville, N.C., on Friday, July 11; and the 10th-annual Bob Waters Memorial at the Maggie Valley Club in Maggie Valley, N.C., on Friday, Sept. 5, a day before the Catamount football team’s home opener against Brevard College.

An added wrinkle to this season’s golf tour stops is the WCU Staff “5th Player Auction.” As the golfers make their way to their carts for the tournament “Welcome and Rules” announcements, they will have an opportunity to participate in a mini Live Auction. All WCU coaches and staff members on hand will be “on the auction block” to aid the four-player teams throughout that specific tournament. In short, each player of the foursome could chip in a minimum of $25 apiece for the right to have a fifth player for the day. Bidding for the WCU staff “5th Player” will begin at $100.

The Catamount Golf Tour was established in 2008 to help organize the different golf tournaments orchestrated by WCU’s alumni and supporters. The events are great opportunities to rally alumni and fans and allowing interaction with various Catamount coaches and staff members. All proceeds from the six golf tournaments directly benefit the WCU student-athlete scholarships.

For more information on the Catamount Club and the Catamount Golf Tour, contact Associate Director Julie Miller at (828) 227-3084 or by Email at jamiller@email.wcu.edu. Individuals or businesses can help sponsor the 2014 Catamount Golf Tour with contributions. Individual hole sponsorships or tour-wide support options are available.
