Cullowhee, N.C. – After opening the 2019-20 season on the road, the Western Carolina men’s basketball team opens the home portion of its schedule Saturday at Noon as the Catamounts host Gardner-Webb in the first half of a doubleheader with the Catamount football team which hosts ETSU in the “Blue Ridge Border Battle” at 3:30 pm.

Fans holding football tickets can gain free admission to the basketball contest by showing their ticket at the Ramsey Center doors. As part of Heroes Day festivities, the first 400 WCU students who are seated in the student section (Section J-K) will receive a free camo WCU hat courtesy of Pepsi.

Saturday’s game will air on ESPN3 (cable or satellite subscription required) with Daniel Hooker and Jeff Bryson calling the action. The Catamount Sports Network will provide coverage with Gary Ayers on the call. Catamount Sports Network coverage airs on WWCU-FM, Power 90dot5 in Cullowhee, 105.7-FM/540-AM WRGC in Sylva and WISE Sports Radio 102.9 FM/1310 AM in Asheville as well as online at Live stats will also be available.

WCU is 0-1 after dropping a 91-72 decision at Georgia on Tuesday. Redshirt junior Mason Faulkner scored a team-best 21 points in his Catamount debut. Senior Carlos Dotson posted his 14th career double-double with 17 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Senior Onno Steger (16 points) and sophomore Kameron Gibson (12 points) also finished in double figures.

Gardner-Webb is 0-1 following a 70-63 setback against Furman on Tuesday that snapped a 14-game home winning streak. Sophomore Jose Perez led the Runnin’ Bulldogs with 19 points. Gardner-Webb represented the Big South Conference at the 2019 NCAA Tournament by virtue of winning the league’s postseason tournament, battling eventual national champion Virginia in the first round.

The Catamounts and Runnin’ Bulldogs have met 12 previous times on the hardwood with Gardner-Webb leading the series 7-5. Saturday marks the first visit to Cullowhee for Gardner-Webb since Dec. 17, 2008.

Western Carolina remains at home as North Carolina A&T visits the Ramsey Center Tuesday at 7 pm.
