CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women’s soccer senior Emily Zipay has been selected as a member of the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District III First Team as announced today.

Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.

This is Zipay’s first time on the Academic All-District team becoming the fourth Western Carolina women’s soccer player to be honored. It is just the third time a Catamount women’s soccer player earned a spot on the first team as former Catamount Samantha Hodge was a first-team all-district selection in 2011 and 2012. Kyla Dean was the first Catamount to be honored in 2002 with a second-team all-district selection while Emily Pierce was a second-team honoree in 2003 and 2005.

Carrying a 4.0 GPA in Biology, Zipay a midfielder from Murfreesboro, Tenn., closed out her senior season with two goals and three assists scoring five points on the season. She scored two game-winning goals against UNC Asheville and Mercer on the season.

Zipay is just one of two women’s soccer players from the Southern Conference to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. ETSU’s Sarah Connolly was also a first-team selection.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into geographic districts across the United States and Canada.

As a team, Western Carolina ended the season with an 11-9 record placing fifth in the Southern Conference. The Catamounts had a 5-4 record in conference play and fell to No. 4 seed Mercer 1-0 in double overtime in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Championship to close out the 2019 season.
