Spartanburg, S.C. – Western Carolina senior libero Meagan Sanchez was today tabbed the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Month for matches played in October.

Sanchez claims the fourth monthly award in program history since its inception in 2006, the third in her career and second of the season after being named Defensive Player of the Month in September. Sanchez’s first career monthly award came after being named Defensive Player of the Month in November 2016.

The Bristow, Va. native had 158 digs for an average of 5.48 digs per set during the month, winning SoCon Defensive Player of the week on three occasions. Sanchez had a monthly high of 27 digs at Mercer on Oct. 4 and finished in double figures in digs in all but one match. Sanchez also averaged 1.03 assists per set. Sanchez’s 477 digs are a league-best, more than 150 more than anyone else. She ranks ninth nationally with 477 digs and is 11th with 5.48 digs per set.

Western Carolina is home tonight against Chattanooga at 6 p.m. followed by a visit from Mercer on Saturday at 6 p.m.
