Washington, D.C. – Western Carolina’s 2017 Football Media Guide earned second-place nationally in the 2017-18 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) annual Publications and Digital Designs Contest. A partial listing of the publication award winners was announced in early June online at CoSIDA.com with the remainder awarded during the national convention held this week at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center.
There are over 50 categories across the board in the annual CoSIDA Publications Contest, with every program at every level having the opportunity to receive recognition for their work. Missouri State University of the Missouri Valley Football Conference earned first-place in the contest.
The 2017 Western Carolina Football Media Guide was a product of the Western Carolina Athletics Department and the Office of Athletics Media Relations. The covers were designed by Daniel Hooker. The majority of photos in the annual publication were provided by WCU’s Office of Communications & Public Relations with photographers Mark Haskett and Ashley Evans with printing on-campus by Tom Frazier and the staff at the WCU Print Shop.
The book was written, designed and edited by Daniel Hooker, Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations. Editorial assistance was provided by Directors of Media Relations Sean Forrester and Denise Gideon, as well as Catamount Sports Network correspondent, Greg McLamb. Special thanks to former WCU Sports Information contacts including Mike Cawood, Jody Jones, and Steve White for their part in the historical assistance in the publication.
Fellow Southern Conference member, Chattanooga, was also honored as it received the “Best Cover” honors in 2017-18. It is the seventh CoSIDA Publications and Digital Designs Contest recognition for UTC in the last seven years. The Mocs’ Football Media Guide was voted Best in the Nation in 2016 and No. 2 in the FCS in 2014.
