Amber Hawkins Named to Southern Conference Preseason First Team

Western Carolina junior softball player Amber Hawkins was named today to the Southern Conference Preseason First Team, at designated player, in balloting conducted by the league's head coaches. It is the third time in the team's five-year history the club has placed a player on the preseason first team. Read Full Release

Second Half Rally Falls Short; Western Carolina Drops Road Game at Elon, 81-76

Elon used a 17-to-4 run to take a lead it would never relinquish in the first half Monday night before holding off Western Carolina's second half rally to win 81-76, handing the Catamounts their first consecutive losses on the season. Swayne's Season-High 15 Points Lances Furman Paladins 69-39

Western Carolina women's basketball picked up its first road win of the season with a 69-39 win over Furman Saturday at Timmons Arena. The Catamounts improve to 4-19 and 3-11 in the Southern Conference while the Paladins fall to 6-18 and 4-11 in the SoCon. Read Full Release

Feb. 14, 2009 - Western Carolina opens its run of 15-straight home wins with an 89-84 win over Appalachian State. Canadian-born Harouna Mutombo (28 points) and Keaton Cole (15 points) paced WCU past its arch-rival.
 
Feb. 28, 2009 - Western Carolina made its first five 3-pointers for a double-digit lead and held on to down Chattanooga, 86-77, and share the SoCon North Division Crown. Brandon Giles (23 points) and Brigham Waginger (22 points) paced WCU.
 
Nov. 25, 2009 - The Catamounts claimed the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic Subregional in Cullowhee by downing Duquesne, 83-77. Jake Robinson made seven of WCU's school-record 17 3-pointers in the win.
 
Dec. 30, 2009 - Western Carolina closes 2009 with its 10th-straight home win, a 87-76 win over mountain-rival, UNC Asheville. Jake Robinson scored 25 points in the win.
 
Jan. 25, 2010 - A crowd of 4,765 witnesses WCU outscoring the College of Charleston, 100-90, in a battle of SoCon divisional leaders. Richie Gordon scored 19 to lead five Catamounts in double figures.
